Day 1: Arrival and Adventure to Tehuelches’ Caves
Welcome to your 3-day adventure in El Calafate! Upon arriving at El Calafate airport, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure—relax or explore the charming surroundings.
El Calafate is the gateway to Patagonia’s most breathtaking natural wonders, including the renowned Perito Moreno Glacier. This glacier is one of the few in the world that continues to advance, and it has helped make El Calafate famous on the global stage. The city is considered the capital of glaciers, and it sits on the shore of Lago Argentino, the largest lake in Patagonia. You’ll also find the Spegazzini Glacier, which marks the natural border between Argentina and Chile, and the vast Upsala Glacier, known as Glaciar del Gigante.
Beyond glaciers, El Calafate offers many other hidden gems. Use your free time to uncover more of what this region has to offer.
4WD Trip to Tehuelches’ Caves
In the afternoon, we’ll pick you up from your hotel for a thrilling 4WD excursion along the shore of Lago Argentino. Venture into Tehuelche territory and marvel at their ancient caves and petroglyphs. Experience the unique landscape of the native Tehuelches, enjoy a delicious 3-course lunch, and dine within one of their historic caves. After this immersive experience, we’ll return you to your hotel in El Calafate.

Day 2: Mayo Trek Spirit & Perito Moreno Glacier Tour
Discover Patagonia’s Icy Giants
Prepare for an exhilarating 8-hour journey exploring remote glaciers accessible only by boat. Your day begins with a pickup from your hotel and a transfer to Puerto Bandera within Glacier National Park, where you’ll embark on your first boat ride.
Sail along the Mayo Channel and disembark at Toro Bay for a hike through the Patagonian forest. Your expert guide will introduce you to the unique flora of this region, including a millennia-old cherry tree with a trunk measuring 3 meters in diameter.
Next, continue your boat trip to Cerro Negro (Black Hill), where you’ll take a short, gentle hike to the base of the hill to view the striking Black Glacier. Enjoy some time in this lesser-visited spot before heading to the iconic Perito Moreno Glacier.
Witness the grandeur of this glacier from our boat as we glide past its colossal ice wall—keep an eye out for calving ice! Afterward, you’ll have time to explore the glacier’s traditional walkways before we return to Puerto Bandera and drive you back to El Calafate.

Why is the Perito Moreno Glacier the main attraction in El Calafate? It’s one of the few glaciers in the world that is still advancing. This dynamic process occasionally causes the glacier to extend across the arm of Lake Rico, forming a natural dam. Over time, this creates a dramatic 16-foot arch that eventually collapses into the lake, offering a rare and spectacular natural phenomenon. Witnessing this event is a rare privilege.
